so one of my family's dogs died last night

Daisy, who lived nearly 16 years, and who was really roughing it by the end. got to be with her as she died and buried her with one of the basketballs she used to chase around the hill. i feel a lot more closure after doing that. my dad had buried all the other pets we've lost by himself, and it's really hard on him, and i don't know if having family there made it any less hard, but i hope so

i haven't listened to bronte by gotye yet to make myself cry. ive already been in mourning since we found out she had cancer

there are a few songs I associate with Louis! I have a playlist, here, for anyone curious! But to choose a select number that I think might be wild cards.

This one for me just captures the way Louis must appear to mortals? Louis who 'accidentally' enchants mortals, a vampire whom other vampires and mortals alike are struck by, to paraphrase sections of the books. His natural charm, his slightly dishevelled beauty.

YO it’s been a genuine while since I’ve listened to Gotye’s stuff (I got really into him in high school and that was 9 years ago) but ya bitch heard “Bronte” for the first time in 2013 and it is to this date the only song I’ve ever heard that’s made me cry on the first listen. AND I think the music video was animated by the same guy who’d eventually go on to do the animations/art direction for Hollow Knight, so anyways point being thank you Mr. De Backer for my lyfe.

Music that inspires my project

Music is a big part in my art, I often draw things that I think about when I listen to music, or create elaborate music videos in my head to them (or in real life), for example, when I created an animation to Placebo's Lady of The Flowers.

For this project, I knew that in order to make it effective, I really wanted to use music in some form.

Musicians that inspire me and why

- Kate Bush

She is my all time favourite musical artist. She creates whole worlds with her music, characters, emotions. Her work is very narrative heavy, which would work for this animation if I could find one which shared a similar narrative to my video. These were the songs I was considering:

- The Fog - A semi autobiographical song about learning to swim as a child for the first time, but then compared to a relationship

- Night Scented Stock - a song with no lyrics but just beautiful singing

- The Morning Fog

- Bat For Lashes

She is a British��artist who is very often compared to Kate Bush and says she is directly influenced by her. She uses natural imagery that often has a somewhat pagan/witchy feel to it.  Songs I was considering:

- Moon and Moon - Not necessarily for any lyrical content but the melody is beautiful.

- Wilderness - again melody.

- Gotye

His songs are extremely emotive and interesting. His hit song was somebody that I used to know, but in my opinion, all his other work is just as good if not some better to me personally. He uses independent Australian animators to make his videos, giving them the idea for it and they can take it in whatever way they want to.

- Bronte - I have done research on this song, but it really is rather fitting, I wasn't considering using it but it was an idea of the sort of thing I'd like to use.

- The Ditty Bops

they are a couple who make vintage inspired songs. Most of their music is too upbeat for this project, but one song in particular, Sugar and Spice is incredibly fitting.

Update: The songs that I chose for my end video and why

- Kate Bush - Night Scented Stock: Whilst it has no lyrical content, it feels so magical and ethereal I thought it would work perfectly for the first time Edie (the protagonist) sees the white deer.

- Bat for Lashes - Moon and Moon: The melody of this song is stunning and very emotional, I think it has a deeper impact than any song I could have chosen. However, I decided I did not want my animation to have any lyrics. Luckily, a while ago I learnt Moon and Moon on piano, so for my animation I recorded myself playing it and put it in the background.

- The Ditty Bops - Sugar and Spice: I took the lyric, 'These are the dreams of little girls, who don't want to grow up' and used it as the title of my animation and project, because I just thought it worked perfectly
